Biography
Montreal courier poet Somer Vineberg has two professions - a courier and a poet. As a courier, he drives through the streets of Montreal with his pen and paper and at a stop light he writes down his feelings and impressions which he turns into well crafted expressive poems.
His career as a poet started way back when he was a teenager in Montreal. He soon gained a reputation as a writer. He was a guess student at Concordia University twice, once in the 1960's with poet Irving Layton and in the 1970's with writer/novelist Mordecai Richter's. He was also the student of novelist/storyteller Professor Abraham Ram at the Saidye Bronfman Center However he credits the influence of poets Khalil Gibran and Ogden Nash.
Somer has given readings in grade schools, universities, libraries, Student Cafes, the Golden Age, Seniors Residences and synagogues. He appeared on television on Chai Montreal, was interviewed on radio Jewish Magazine and Radio Shalom and for newspapers by the Canadian Jewish News. His poems were featured in The Suburban, the Graduate Magazine of Concordia, and various other publications.
Somer is the author of five poetry books on Write and Writes: I declare my Write 1966, Naked Writes 1997, Prophetic Writes 2001, Poetic Writes 2003 and his upcoming Stylish Writes in 2005. Profits from his books are given for Cancer Research.
